a second time around LA 4.22.2008 |

today, i informed that a certain project, for which i was hired a year ago, is making a comeback. at first this didn't seem to mean to much to me, as i am firmly entrenched in another project, and as far as i knew, would be so for at least the next twelve months.

i have now been told that if this project does come back to life i will be pulling off my present project and heading on to the resurrected project. not sure how i feel about this. on the one hand it is good to know that i am on the list of those to take on this behemoth of a project, even in its second incarnation. on the other hand i am a little disappointed to realize i will probably be leaving the project i have been working on for the last eight months or so.

the project is in LA and has a high profile. the developer is very interested in sustainable strategies as well as innovative construction. so from a portfolio perspective, this could be a good project to be connected to.

i suppose i will keep this little dry spot informed as more information comes to light.

Portishead |

Portishead (IPA: [pɔːtɪsˈhɛd]) are an English trip-hop group from Bristol, named after the nearby town of the same name, 13 km (8 mi)[1] west of Bristol.

(i want to start off by apologizing to Kevin, I know you already blogged on this topic, and I kind of feel that i am riding on your coat-tails. To be fair to myself though I am the one that pointed you to the fact that Last.fm was releasing the album.)

Portishead are a time honored favorite in the Darnell house. We love them, unreservedly.

Today last.fm started previewing the new Portishead album. I find myself so happy listening to them. It is a reminder to me of good music, that i find increasingly hard to find.

Look them up, and enjoy.

Typing about not typing 4.15.2008 |

over the last month we have been living our life, busy but never consumed completely, and neither L nor i have blogged much. we seem to be slackers. L at least has the excuse of being in school.

she is doing really well. it is amazing to be around her as her mind is on fire with all the readings and study she has been doing. everything connects and relates in the most amazing ways.

plus, everyone should really have the experience of having their grocery list subjected to a Marxist reading. wow...

anyway this was mostly a note to recognize i haven't been doing much and that i am aware of it. hopefully i can get on task sooner than later.

Fathers |

In the last few months, several young men in my office have lost their fathers. In the cases I am most familiar with, these young men are living many states, if not countries, away from their fathers, and they are not particularly close to their fathers. It is a case of a parent dying, rather than a good friend.

I have been thinking a lot about this today, as one of the young men is making plans to head home to Nepal to see his father interred.

My dad and I have had a mostly good relationship. At times strained like all father-son relationships, but by and large I would consider my father one of my best friends. I work to be a man he can be proud of and I find frequently that I use him as a measuring stick towards my life.

I am fairly certain that I am well past confusing dad’s approval with god’s approval. And though he may have at one time been the model for my god-construct, he is no longer, for good or ill.

He is dear to my heart and precious to me. I fear the day that I have to face his passing. Even more so as those around me are confronted by this moment.

This is at its very most pure form a prayer for my father, and myself. Preserve my father, protect my father.
